Akira KINOSHITA "Seiji OZAWA" 1981 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Akira KINOSHITA, photographer. “Seiji OZAWA.” Japan: Kodansha, 1981, First Edition, HB, dj, 30 cm x 23 cm, 159 pp, b/w photos.

This book documents a decade's worth of photos with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Every photo is labeled with the place and date. Many of the "action" photos are from the early and mid 1970s in Japan. Perhaps the most historically interesting photos are those from the famous 1979 Asian Tour with BSO of performances and events in Beijing China. Other classical music luminaries make appearances - famous BSO members like Joseph Silverstein and Harold Wright of course - but also pianist Rudolf Serkin and various operatic singers. Rounding out the books are more casual photos away from the orchestra in Paris, Boston and Tanglewood with friends and family.

Akira Kinoshita is a photographer who, for over a half-century, has specialized in photographs of Japanese music celebrities - on and off stage. He has photographed many famous Japanese musicians from their stage debut, including Kazushi Ono, Midori Goto, Yutaka Sado, and Akiko Suwanai, as well as musicians of an older generation beloved in Japan such as Takashi Asahina, Hideo Saito, and Akeo Watanabe. He has photographed Seiji Ozawa since the 1970s.
