Alao YOKOGI "Hiwofuku Onna" - "Fire Woman" 1995 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Alao YOKOGI, photographer. "Hiwofuku onna" - "Fire Woman" of "Woman Catching Fire." Miyuki TAKANO, model. Toshihiko YAHAGI, text. Japan: Photo Musee, 1995, First Edition, PB, dj, 20 cm x 15 cm, Approx. 100 pp, color photos.

A bizarre, yet oddly charming, little photobook that began as a joke between Yokogi and the Japanese novelist Toshihiko YAHAGI, who supplies the commentary. The collection of images were shot over a period of two years and all feature the nude model Miyuki TAKANO blowing fire like a circus performer in outdoor settings (the humorously misleading cover shot is the only indoor photo and the only photo that doesn't feature real fire). These include nature settings in all seasons from beaches, forest streams and snow-covered mountains to the city streets of Tokyo at different times of the day - many at daybreak in the early morning for obvious reasons.

Yokogi began his career as Kishin Shinoyama's assistant in the early 1970s and his photography career since has encompassed Advertising, Fashion, Documentary, the occasional nude idol photobook, and regular exhibitions in the Tokyo area Galleries.
