Hajime SAWATARI + Kei MARIMURA "Black Box" 2000 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Hajime SAWATARI, photographer. "Black Box." Kei MARIMURA, Model. Japan: Kei Marimura Office/Daiichi Art Publishing, 2000, First Edition, HB, dj, slipcase with embossed green metallic lettering, 31 cm x 23 cm, 250 pp, color & b/w photos.

From the creator of photobook landmarks Nadia, Alice, Alice from the Sea and Taste of Honey. Black Box (also title variously as Blk Box and Black Boxxx) is similar to Sawatari's Hysteric Glamour, A Girl, from the same year - another voluminous assault on the senses whose energy seemingly cannot be repressed by Japan's photographic censorship standards. Which is why this book is seldom seen - published privately, possibly commissioned by the model herself, probably privately distributed more often as a gift rather than sold, hence the numerous revealing images that wouldn't be seen under normal circumstance. In Japan, "Black Box" is a code-title for publications with "forbidden" contents.

Kei Marimura has been a famous Japanese personality for over two decades, first as a Jazz Singer after graduation from the famed Toho School of Music, then a career arch that includes nude photo model, actress (in every type of film), and finally novelist.
