Hajime SAWATARI + Rena MURAKAMI "Irozange" 2002 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Hajime SAWATARI, photographer. “Irozange.” Japan: Freedom F, 2002, First Edition, HB, (no dj as issued), slipcase, 37 cm x 27 cm, 130 pp, color photos.

From a series of large high-quality photobooks featuring famous Japanese actresses. The books are extra large with slipcases and the photos reproduced on thick high-quality paper. The books were not marketed in books stores, published semi-privately and ignored Japanese censorship standards. "Irozange" is a created word from three Japanese characters for "color," "spread" and "brilliant" - any double-entendre undoubtedly intentional.

Rena Murakami first photos were in Akira Gomi's "Yellows Tokyo" series. Then followed a highly successful acting career in both Hong Kong and Japan (even in some Japanese dramas where she remained fully clothed) - she also made plenty of scandalous news away from the cameras as well (something about a sultan). Her most famous film appearance for Western audiences was in the 1991 cult film from Hong Kong, Sex and Zen. With the famous photographer Sawatari behind the lens and the quality book design (original price was over 100$), this is her best photobook.

Condition: Very Good, with slipcase.
