Availability: 1 available

Hiroshi HAMAYA, photographer. "Kodomo Fudoki” - “Children in Japan." Japan: Chuo Koronsha, 1959, First Edition, Yellow cloth boards with embossed titles, dj, slipcase with pasted label, 4-page leaflet with text in English, 25 cm x 27 cm, 104 pp, color & b/w photos, text in Japanese.

A wondrous book. Hamaya’s photos of children in Japan are organized into 12 districts encompassing all of the country from Hokkaido to Kyushu and matching the 12 months of the year. Hamaya chooses important festivals for these areas to highlight the relationship between his subjects and their culture, climate, history, education and lifestyle. Just a great book.

Condition: Excellent, with insert, slipcase and obi (around the case). Jacket has wear along the front left edge, otherwise a spectacularly beautiful copy with bright pages, remarkably fresh - doesn’t look at all its half-century age. And that goes for the Case and Obi as well - may never see a better copy.
