Junichiro SEKINO, artist. "Taisho no Shonen" - "Taisho Boy.” Japan: Private Publication, 1972, 29 x 22 cm, 34 pp exclusive of woodblock prints. 12 woodblock prints on fine washi with beautiful bleed-through. The book jacket and endpapers are woodblock printed as well with embossing and hand-painted sumi letters. Also another color woodblock print is pasted to the front cover of the book beneath the jacket. Fine string binding fukuro toji style with the pages folded over in the manner of traditional Japanese woodblock printed books. Decorative paper with paper label on the case. Self-Carved and Self-Printed. Brush signed and sealed by Sekino. Limited edition of 150 copies.

Junichiro Sekino (1914-1988) biography: Even before his twentieth birthday Junichiro Sekino was already involved with woodblock prints: he made them together with friends while still at High School, and he knew Shiko Munakata (a few years his senior) from boyhood (Munakata was also from Aomori prefecture). From 1932 he exhibited with the Nihon Hanga Kyokai. In the 30s he studied with Koshiro Onchi and with Senpan Maekawa. After WWII he became especially well-known in the USA, but his star rose rapidly elsewhere in the world as well. His work is characterized by its technical accomplishment and variety."--Saru Gallery
