* Kazuo KITAI "Sanrizuka" 1971 Photobook SIGNED

Availability: Out of stock

Kazuo KITAI, photographer. "Sanrizuka." Japan: Norasha, 1971, First Edition, PB, slipcase, 24 cm x 18 cm, 184 pp, b/w gravure reproductions.

"A documentation of the Sanrizuka farmers' opposition and resistance to the government's plan to build Narita airport. Perhaps the most powerful and fully-realized production of all the Japanese protest books on this subject. Although not an official member of Provoke, Kitai was a pioneer in the photographic style championed by the group. His first book, Resistance, published in 1965, was greatly admired by Daido Moriyama and Takuma Nakahira."--Parr & Badger, The Photobook: A History, Vol. 3, p. 56.

Photos taken during Japan's Narita protests. The farming villages documented here literally vanished underneath the runways of Narita airport and some of this agrarian lifestyle has vanished as well.

Condition: Very Good, with slipcase, book binding quite strong, bottom page-edge corner slightly bumped. Virtually none of the age/humidity spots often seen with copies still housed within the original slipcase. SIGNED by Kitai with his usual modest and minimalist signature on the title page.

Shipping costs: International EMS (express mail service) delivery estimated within 2-4 days - $24.00 (USA), $28.00 (Europe). Shipping weight: approx. 950g.
