“A study in the metaphysics of architecture, this stunning book is comprised of portfolios focusing on specific houses. Shinoyama attempts to locate what he refers to as 'the language of a house,' which he defines as the 'various signs evident in a house that has been occupied (i.e. not simply built) - not so much substance as what I would call events... the language we discern in the house, to put it somewhat extravagantly, escapes the bonds of architectural history and the intentions of the architect and artisan.'”--Photo-eye.
