* Nobuyoshi ARAKI "Fu-jyo" - "69" 2001 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Nobuyoshi ARAKI, photographer. "Fu-jyo" - "69." Japan: Bauhaus, 2001, First Edition, PB, dj, 24 cm x 18 cm, 192 pp, color & b/w photos.

"A trademark Araki project featuring nude portraits of 69 women working in the sex trade in and around the Shinjuku area of Tokyo. Records of their meetings with customers and letters from the women are included and seem both poignant and kind-hearted."--Kotaro Iizawa, Araki: Self, Life, Death.

"Fu-jyo" or "fujo" is Japanese for six-nine - portraits and photos of 69 juzoku-jo. The book is in two parts: b/w studio portraits of the girls in front of a plain, seamless background - echoing the photos from Shojo Monogatari and, second, color photos of the girls posed in the provocative manners for which Araki is known. An index doubles as advertising catalog, identifying professional names, bios and employment establishments (Shinjuku, Yokohama, Sapporo). Despite his reputation and prolific output, this is one of only three books by Araki dedicated entirely to models from Japan's adult entertainment industry.

Condition: Very Good, with obi. Binding is unbent.
