Nobuyoshi ARAKI, photographer. "Hokeitei Nichijo - araakīi no ai to erosu to itsuwari no shashin-shu 2628 nikki tankobon" - "Hokeitei Diary: Ararchy's Love and Eros and Lies: 2628-Photo-Diary." Japan: East Press, 1994, First Edition, PB, dj, 15 cm x 23 cm, 2628 b/w photos, text in Japanese.

"A photographic diary serialized in the magazine Uwasa no shinso between January 1987 and March 1994. Less written material and more photographs than in the earlier Tokyo Fine Day. The title is a corruption of the novelist Nagai Kafu's celebrated Journal Diary of Dr. Heartbreak (Danchotei Nichijo). The materials from around the time of Yoko's death are particularly poignant."--Kotaro Iizawa, Araki: Self, Life, Death

One of two books by Araki published in 1994 that take their inspiration from noted author Nagai KAFU, the other being Bokuju Kitan. Kafu was famous for depicting the life of geisha, prostitutes, cabaret dancers and other denizens of Tokyo's entertainment district during the first half of the 20th century. Kafu's diary, Danchotei Nichijo was written over the course of 40 years. Hokeitei Nichijo encompasses the years 1987-1994, unlike most of Araki's "diaries" this one doe not manipulate the dates. Photos of the Tokyo Lucky Hole lifestyle feature prominently along with Yoko.

An excellent copy of this important book by Araki plus 8 manuscript pages in Araki's hand with corrections. The manuscript pages are the text in the last picture example - from June 22 - July 7, 1988. These are originally from an auction lot that included other Araki ephemera including letters to and from early editors and a very rare postcard created by Araki in the 60s fleetingly mentioned in an early bibliography. One of a kind collectible.
