Nobuyoshi ARAKI "Midori" 1982 Photobook 1st Ed SIGNED + Document Very Rare

Availability: Out of stock

Nobuyoshi ARAKI, photographer. “Midori.” Japan: Tankisha, 1982, First Edition, PB, 29 cm x 23, 32 pp, 27 b/w images.

“Midori is the name of the beautiful young girl who appears in Higuchi ICHIYO's classic novel Takekurabe. This series of portraits explores the idea that Midori has grown up to work in a massage parlor, transferring the setting from the Meiji period to contemporary Japan."--Kotaro Iizawa, Araki: Self, Life, Death

One of Araki's scarcest books. The original 1982 printing is one of Araki's more fragile publications.

A unique copy despite the condition issues. Boldly SIGNED across the top of the front cover - first signed copy of this rare book that I have ever seen. Plus an incredible document insert - A photocopy of Araki's presentation letter to the original dealer in which he remarks upon the creation of the photos in this book and his mindset in the year 1982. The dealer then wrote a short note to the original buyer in pencil describing Araki's letter.

Condition: Only Fair, structurally sound but considerable age spotting, slightly bumped top corner. Still a special copy as such.

Shipping costs: International EMS (express mail service) delivery estimated within 2-4 days - $15.00 (USA), $18.00 (Europe). Shipping weight: approx. 450g.
