Nobuyoshi ARAKI "Shi-Shashin" 1994 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Nobuyoshi ARAKI, photographer. “Shi-Shashin” - "I-Photographs." Japan: Asahi Shimbunsha, 1994, First Edition, PB, dj, 23 cm x 23 cm, approx. 125 pp - one b/w photo plate per page.

"Araki's method of photographing the relationship between the personalized subject and the world, cultivated since the appearance of Sentimental Journey in 1971, is crystallized here. The restrained book design is by Seiichi Suzuki and the concluding essay Personal Relationships is by Eimi (Amy) Yamada."--Kotaro Iizawa, Araki: Self, Life, Death

The selection and pacing of the images give this collection a more restrained impression than many of Araki's works. This book is often praised as containing some of his best work, evenly from start to finish. Unlike most modern Araki photobooks which are printed with glossy paper, the images in Shi Sha Shin are printed on a buff matte-like paper that contributes to the sober tone.

Condition: Very Good, with obi, binding is unbent, some areas of foxing at the page edges. Unusually white jacket and pages - if not for the foxing spots this would be a rare "as-new" copy.
