Scarlet OHARA & Wladyslaw PAWELEC "NGS Artman Club HQ Portfolio Series" 1991 Photobook

Availability: Out of stock

Scarlet OHARA & Wladyslaw PAWELEC, photographers. “AMC Artman Club VIP Members Edition HQ Portfolio Series: Scarlet Ohara & Wladyslaw Pawelec” Japan: Nippon Geijutsu Shuppan (NGS), 1991, First Edition, custom folio with blue cloth boards and titles embossed in silver on cover and spine, 24 heavy-stock loose-sheet glossy color prints with cover sheet in a folder, 38 x 28 cm.

NGS Artman Club publications were available by subscription only - not in bookstores - this allowed them to circumvent Japanese censorship standards. The private publications of the Artman Club had a penchant for models and settings similar to those of David Hamilton, Jacques Bourboulon and other European favorites like Otto Weisser, Siwer Ohlsson, Jacques Alexandre, Jean-Pierre Bourgeois and Michel Moreau with sun-drenched Mediterranean settings and limbs-akimbo poses.

One of the rarest of the Artman Club portfolios combining 12 photo prints of "Scarlet Ohara" (a name which is almost certainly a pseudonym) and 12 photo prints by the important Polish erotic photographer Wladyslaw Pawelec. Quite a contrast between the Ohara photos which could be by Leslie Turtle or Shelley Lawrence and the moodier work of Pawelec.

"Wladyslaw Pawelec (1923-2004) was a photographer who lived and worked in Warsaw. Member of the Union of Polish Art Photographers (ZPAF) from 1966. A pioneer of Polish erotica photography, he practiced female portrait and female nude for over thirty years. His 1970s shows, starting with the famous Monica (1974), and a nude calendar published in 1983 in 200,000 copies were sensations, causing a reappraisement in the critical perception of nude photography and drawing international attention. In 1985, his Friends of Zofia photo book was published by Melrose Square Publishing. In 1999, Fotografia aktu (Nude photography) came out, and in 2000 the public TV, Telewizja Polska, made a documentary about Pawelec, Portret artysty z nimfami w tle (Portrait of an artist with nymphs). He participated in numerous exhibitions, e.g. World Press Photo in the Hague (1966) or APA International Exhibition of Photography in Tokyo (1978). In 1984, he had a solo exhibition at Amsterdam’s Canon Photo Gallery."--Galleria Asymetria bio
