Availability: Out of stock

Shomei TOMATSU, photographer. “Sonorama Shashin Sensho 12: Doro no Okoku" - "Sonorama Photobook Series 12: Kingdom of Mud.” Akira HASEGAWA, essay. Japan: Asahi Sonorama, 1978, First Edition, HB, dj, 21 cm x 22 cm, 120 pp, b/w photos, text in Japanese & English.

“Tomatsu’s contribution to the Asahi Sonorama series reprises some of the images of Afghanistan found in his scarce third book, Salaam Aleikoum (1968). They are somewhat more direct and less allusive than his other work of the same period.”--Photo-eye.

“A photographer looks at everything, which is why he must look from beginning to end. Face the subject head-on, stare fixedly, turn the entire body into an eye and face the world. The human who bets on looking - that is a photographer.”--Tomatsu.

Condition: Quite good for a book from this series, though it does have some of the often seen foxing to the first and last pages and on the underside of the jacket. Jacket spine is slightly faded.
