Availability: Out of stock

Takeji IWAMIYA, photographer. "Works from 30 Years." Tokyo: Nippon Shashin-kikaku, 1976, First Edition, HB, dj, slipcase, 31 cm x 22 cm, Approx. 300 pp, numerous b/w and color images, text in Japanese. Signed by Iwamiya.

"Iwamiya is probably best known as one of Daido Moriyama's teachers. However, as a documentarian of traditional Japanese culture and craft--gardens, temples, sculptures, and the like--he has virtually no equal. This gorgeous retrospective monograph includes sections on Kyoto, Osaka, the Japanese garden, and traditional design. An absolutely invaluable and visually stunning book for anyone with an interest in the intersection of photography and Japanese aesthetics."--Photo-eye.

Iwamiya's most famed photobooks (in the West, at least) are the two books called "Sado" - the original first edition and the later second volume of the famed Sonorama series. Some unpublished photos from those sessions are included here - notably more photos of the island children and photos of the island women in the ofuro (Japanese bath). Iwamiya's career was a long one which touched on virtually every corner of Japanese Art. This book is the most complete overview of his work and includes the expected - Temples, Gardens, Landscapes and Architecture - and also the unexpected - modernist still lifes, nudes, Spanish bullfights and even celebrity fashion photos.

Condition: Very Good, with original plain black slipcase. Signed by Iwamiya on the front endpaper.
