Availability: Out of stock

Tenmei KANOH (Noriaki KANO), photographer. "Kikuze! - The Tenmei Ominibus." Japan: Take Shobo, 1994, PB, 30 cm x 22 cm, approx. 160 pp, color & b/w photos.

A thick best-of collection of photos from the first 12 issues of Kanoh's monthly photo magazine. The Tenmei was a monthly series of nude photography mooks from April 1993 to March 1995, featuring amateur Japanese models, 3 or 4 per volume. The series came to an end in early 1995 when both Kanoh and the publisher were arrested, being warned numerous times by the authorities for pushing the limits of censorship laws, even with the new relaxation in standards. In the 1960s and early 1970s Kanoh was known as Noriaki Kano, by this name he published the gigantic Shunga book referenced in Bertollotti's Books of Nudes (p. 171). Over the years he came to prefer the alternate pronunciation "Tenmei." A renaissance man, Kanoh was also a radio disc jockey, a novelist, a producer of pop music albums, a television personality, and actor - appearing in the infamous cult film Tokyo Decadence. In a 2000 photo magazine poll he was chosen by 100 aspiring models as the second most famous Japanese photographer after Shinoyama and just ahead of Araki.

Condition: Very Good.
