Tetsuya ICHIMURA "NGS AMC Artman Club Portfolio Series" 1995 Photobook Rare

Availability: Out of stock

Tetsuya ICHIMURA, photographer. “AMC Artman Club VIP Members Edition Portfolio Series” Japan: Nippon Geijutsu Shuppan (NGS), 1995, First Edition, custom folio with white paper over boards, 24 heavy-stock loose-sheet glossy color prints with cover sheet in a folder, 38 x 28 cm.

NGS Artman Club publications were available by subscription only - not in bookstores - this allowed them to circumvent Japanese censorship standards. The private publications of the Artman Club had a penchant for models and settings similar to those of David Hamilton and Jacques Bourboulon whose photography they also published.

Ichimura has created two of the greatest photobooks of all time: Come Up (ref. Kaneko & Vartanian) and Salome (ref. Bertolotti). This portfolio is more scarce than both of those - the first time I have ever sold it or even seen it.

"I tried to extract not a superficial but unique part of the human soul from the realities in Japan, and photographed human bodies and Japanese landscapes, with a view that perceives the origin of the Japanese sex and its soil through the realism of photography, which is considered suitable for expressing the intangible soul. By doing so, I could perceive the origin of myself as a human being, and obtained a method of thinking based primarily upon a human being itself. Fortuity is a motive for photography and the essence of photography is the fortuitous discovery of the truth."--Ichimura, Come Up
