Availability: Out of stock

Shomei TOMATSU, Koji TAKI, Nagisa OSHIMA, et. al., photographers/contributors. "Ken, Vol. 1.” Yoshio SAWANO, editor. Tokyo: Shaken, 1970, First Edition, PB, 148 pp, 23 x 19 cm, b/w photos, text in Japanese.

A landmark in Japanese photography, this is the first of only three issues. “Ken was published by Shaken, the company established by Shomei Tomatsu, who provided the cover photo. Like Provoke before it, Ken features much work in the are-bure-boke, or rough, blurred, and out-of-focus, style. Each of the three issues was edited by a different photographer. The first issue contained criticism of the Osaka World Exposition as well as criticism related to photography. Contributions by members of the Provoke crew: Koji Taki, Daido Moriyama, Takuma Nakahira, and Nobuyoshi Araki, among others. These could very well go the way of the three issues of Provoke...”--Photo-eye
