Availability: Out of stock

Tenmei KANOH, Yoshihiro TATSUKI, Tetsuya ICHIMURA, photographers. "Shashin shu: Onna to Otoko" - "Woman and Man." Japan: Ado Angen, 1971, First Edition, PB, dj, 30 cm x 23 cm, Approx. 160 pp, color & b/w photos, Japanese English text.

An anthology of the three gigantic Shunga books published by these photographers in 1970 (ref: Bertolotti). Intended as a modern form of shunga, each photographer explores the depiction of couples in erotic scenes. The Tatsuki portion seems the most conventional - luring the observer with romantic soft focus images that eventually turn the observer into an unwilling voyeur. The other two lean to the bizarre and inscrutable. The Kanoh portion of the book has images of free-loving, hair-dyed hippies - not idealizations of the flower power generation though - more disturbing and fascinating. The Ichimura contribution is truly strange. Much like he did in Come Up, Ichimura sequences erotic images with still life and landscapes - in this case a temple full of its own grotesque images - in a seemingly random manner, but one that subliminally heightens the affect of the individual shots.

Condition: Very Good, with obi (not often seen with this book). Obi has some wear and toning but the book itself is unusually bright.
